OUR HISTORY
2018
first idea
Bi-rex originates within the laboratories of Politecnico di Milano from the research efforts of two chemists: Monica was working on polymers, including cellulose, while Greta was studying DES solvents. Through the combination of these two research areas, we discovered the possibility of isolating cellulose and chitin from biomass.
2020
PRE-SEED INVESTMENT
With the victory at Switch2Product 2020 and the subsequent pre-seed funding of €160K from 360 Capital Partners, we grasped the potential of what we had in hand. Shortly thereafter, with one of the top 5 Italian paper producers, we initiated a Product Validation process. Winning StartCup Lombardia, we secured a €15K grant and an Acceleration Program from Eni called Joule.
2021
polihub incubator
After participating in an acceleration program at Polihub, the prestigious incubator of Politecnico di Milano, media interest in our venture began to grow. With the victory at the EniAwards, where the award was presented by the President of the Republic, Mattarella, the first articles were published by Corriere della Sera, and initial interviews with Montemagno were conducted, spreading our sustainability values.
2022
FIRST LETTER OF INTENT
Not long after officially establishing the company Bi-rex S.r.l., we received the first Letter of Intent from one of the top paper producers.
2023
250K€ SAFE INVESTMENT
With our entry into 20Found, we secured a SAFE funding of €250k. The growing interest led us to strengthen collaborations with industrial partners, as well as being interviewed by Repubblica and Sole24h, appearing on Rai3 in the GEO program, and on Tg2 on Rai2.

A Chemistry graduate from the University of Milan, she completed her Ph.D. at the Politecnico di Milano.
